Of Teapot Cults And Helplessness
There's this article in the newspapers today about the Teapot Cult of Malaysia. They have a big teapot for a landmark icon and I mean BIG. It's the size of a small building. Apparently, the cult leader sits around in a tea stall all day, sipping ice-tea and talking about unifying all religion. And when policemen come to arrest him, they never seem to see him. I am thinkingz that he's just spouting a lot of nonsense. geddit? hurhur.
Anyway, for other issues. Don't you find it hard to take someone seriously when, for example, a solemn comment on the London Bombings: "condolences to the Brits" is posted on Internet forums by someone called "FriedLieChee"? This tempura-fruit person seems to keep popping up in web forum extracts on the back page of The Sunday Times.
A random bit of poetic rambling:
We yearn to capture, net and seize the moments that pass
With our digicams, sound recorders and videocams,
So that we may replay them again
Repeatedly, further on in time
But no matter how technology advances as of yet
Can you capture the night breeze that plays on your cheeks,
The warmth of the sun that tans,
The salty tang of the swishy surf?
Photographs, videos, recorded movies
A cheap and lacklustre replay of feelings
All we have to keep
All we are able to keep
When our time comes
There's no technology to retain anything, even memories
Never can we select just one precious item to take along
If the next world exists
A mysterious force rips us from this dimension
And in the sheer inevitableness of it all,
this hurtling torrent of time
We are helpless.
ja ne.
