Dust Bunny Extermination

My CPU started making funny scritch-scritch-scritch noises, so I got rather worried. After many MSN consultations with several individuals, I decided to open the thing to take a look. It was this rabbit-trap of a heatsink fan which was finally starting to have a heart attack after accumulating three years of grime through an unhealthy lifestyle of mad spinning.

Back to MSN it was, and after half an hour of frantic questioning and worrying over possible damage to the computer because the inside is quite alien to me (I never did pay attention during those computer classes), I got fed-up and decided to use the traditional Meng family method of taking a vacuum to the computer and to hell with damage from static electricity.

Before that, I unscrewed the fan and my dad helped me to scrape away at the main muck with an old toothbrush. It was really pretty. The dust was so fine that it slowly drizzled down like the old sand from archaeological site finds.

After that, it was the vacuum cleaner to clean up all the residual muck and yuck of three years.

With no ado whatsoever, I pressed the on button after that and voila! The computer worked! (Else I wouldn't be typing this now anyway)

Then I put everything back and wiped everything down and the computer was squeaky clean and all the better for having the vacuum give it a good blow job.
