Power-Napping and the Gift of Life

This interestingly blurred photo was taken, not by me, I'm sad to say, but by my classmate with my camera. Behind, the carnage of my valiant surviving pieces in the game can be seen. I was playing white by the way, and this was my poor deceased knight. This was a game of Chess played just before the fantasticabulous Chinese A/O Listening Compre where I got half an hour of valuable sleep and scored full marks. woo-hoo!

I got a $3 rather nice printed Hunter X Hunter anime poster from Comics Connection today. Stored it with my Naruto ones. Also bought a small metal kunai keychain for my reincarnated pencilbox. I'm a sucker for spin-off merchandise.

I was talking with a friend's friend the other time, and they were conversing most of the time in Mandarin, which seems to me somehow unusual for students from a rather englishy-school. haha. But then the friend asked my friend whether I understood Chinese or not. Glurgh! (gurgle of indignation) And then they brought up the topic of 香 蕉 人, asking me to prove my literacy by saying something in Chinese. I didn't, because Number One: It just makes me look like a dumb parrot and I couldn't think of anything reasonable to say anyway, and Number Two: 我 的 华 语 真 的 很 糟 糕. I ran the risk of commiting a major faux pas and sounding like a total 白 痴. So, I retorted in one limited phrase of Hokkien. bah.

Doing internal stocktaking, I realise that I currently am familiar with basic Hokkien/Teochew, Cantonese, Japanese and Tamil swear phrases. Talk about multi-lingualism! XP. All you low-lifes so free with your insults, just you wait. I aim to become reasonably fluent in most of the basic dialects and maybe Malay and/or French. Like the character in Matrix Reloaded said, French is a nice language to swear in. So mellifluous.

It will be nice to drench the next Ah Beng who crosses me in colourful language of ten different shades. And come to think of it, it'll probably be a useful army survival tool to know when you're being insulted and what it means. Heh.

The blood donation drive thing has been over for a week or so. I think the people who donate blood are pretty admirable. I feel guilty every time I think of the drive, 'cause I had flu and I'm too squeamish for the needle. I'll have to donate blood sometime in the future, or take up some job that helps blood-transfusion patients, or invent some way of synthesizing blood. My family pretty much owes the hospitals a blood debt anyhow, and my conscience will never let me off if I don't.

If you're reading this, please leave a comment or even better, give me feedback through MSN. It makes my day.

I finished my EOM. Did YOU? ^0^
